How AI Sees Your City (Averages)

Welcome to How AI Sees Your City. You are invited to participate of this research project conducted by researchers at the Toulouse School of Economics (1, Esplanade de l'Université, 31000 Toulouse, France). The project is being run by the Center for Collective Learning led by César Hidalgo at the Toulouse School of Economics.

The goal of the project is to generate evaluative maps of cities using street level imagery, understand people and machine’s preferences for urban environments, and explore new forms of participation aimed at city upgrading.

Participation in this research is entirely voluntary. You are free to withdraw from the study at any time before submitting your responses, without providing a reason and without any consequences.

You understand that your consent does not constitute the legal basis for the processing of your personal data. The latter remains the pursuit of a mission of public interest (Article 6, 1. e) of the GDPR).

How AI Sees Your City uses Google’s StreetView Static API. Server logs will automatically collect your IP addresses solely for operational security and quality control purposes and are stored separately under restricted access conditions. You can find more information about data handling practices here: https://policies.google.com/privacy. Researchers only collect and receive pseudonymized data.

Your pseudonymized responses will be stored securely and used exclusively for academic research purposes. The pseudonymized data may be presented at scientific conferences and published in academic journals. Data will be made public by the research team to encourage further research on urban perception and participation.

You can exercise the following rights due to the automatic collection of your IP address. Please note that any request will be forwarded to Google for processing.

• The right to object: you may object to the processing of your data at any time and have the right to withdraw your consent.
• The right to access and rectify your data.
• The right to ask for the restricted use of your data.
